Woman Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries
The female victim who was stabbed to her neck area during a random assault near a bus shelter within Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.
The deceased woman, aged 34 years, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside Bullring shopping complex, just prior to 21:00 GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.
The suspect, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham court Monday morning, charged over the attack.
Originally charged of attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.
Police Response
Authorities stated police personnel will remain in the downtown area on Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the accused, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, dark headwear, athletic shoes with a backpack.
Incident Location
The stabbing happened outside Bullring retail complex, opposite the main entrance of New Street railway station.
Law enforcement confirmed they classified it as a random violent act with investigators stating they were working to understand the motive behind.
Eyewitness Reports
An area worker, employed in the vicinity, described the emergency response after completing her work period at about 22:00 Friday night.
She characterized the location as "quite chaotic", and said some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances at about 21:00.
"Many my colleagues take public transport, take the tram... our safety is at risk fundamentally, here in the city centre."
Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, said he came to Birmingham quite frequently visiting his partner resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident.
"It makes me worried about my partner," he said.
"She doesn't drive employed at major concert locations... and to think a totally random act occurred, understandably, it's horrible."
