Together Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Partnership.

Consider this a dare for partners in committed relationships who enjoy scary movies: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. The 2025 indie hit just made its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. At first glance, it may seem like standard body horror, but beneath Together lies a deep examination about our choices in loving one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie move from the big city to the rural area for her career. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and the protagonists discover an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a methodically building horror experience, weaving in bits of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and distant from his social circle. He dreads the idea of completely losing his sense of self in Millie. This fear is amplified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie avoids making one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Both characters confront the kind of problems that arise in any relationship after ten years. At their core, they have affection for each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these concerns of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the allegory never feels overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for staying single. On the other hand, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale inspire anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply turn to your partner and say, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu at present.
