Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.

An important official commented the attack left him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
